Fair Trade Music International Awards

The annual Fair Trade Music International awards celebrates outstanding contributions that individual creators, campaigners and law makers are making to the cause of fair remuneration in music. Now in their fourth year, the awards have been presented at ceremonies in Rio de Janeiro, Montréal and Johannesburg to six exceptional recipients from Cape Verdi, Germany, Argentina, Japan, South Africa and South Korea.

The awards were devised and launched by FTMI in 2023. Each year, the FTMI board directors and advisors work together to generate a shortlist of candidates and discuss individual merits before voting on a winner. The awards are open to individuals and to organisations with up to two recipients being honoured each year.

“The economic and moral rights of music creators have never been more under threat. And we rarely hear about the songwriters and composers working tirelessly to promote and protect these rights. We hope these awards give some recognition to their invaluable work.”

– Eddie Schwartz, FTMI board member
